Well, Dad and I discussed it, you and mom chatted amongst yourselves, and Sara sat respectively and listened. But discussed or not, there were no conclusions made. So I thought that perhaps we would have more success discussing it online.

:-) I just said that to get a rise out of you! Actually I have no need to be a part of this disscussion! It is not my $$ that is being spent! But my opinion actually is that i think the CD you did for us was great sounding! More quality than anything Dallas has done! If you all want to spend the $$ I think it would be better spent to buy a program/equipment to do it ourselves and do it one song at a time as we have time!

I vote to have it professionally done. Not that I think Logan could not do it, he did a fantastic job with our first album, but it is a TREMENDOUS time commitment and not fair to ask that of one person. Also, he may not have the equipment to do it in the near future!
I think if we worked on one song at a time and have it down pat, it wouldn't take long to lay it down. Then it will still take a time commitment from Logan and Dad or whoever, to spend time with the recording studio as they do the mixing.
I also think that we might be wise to upgrade equipment, but if we do, we should sell a bunch of what we have already to help pay for the upgrade. We don't need all this stuff and it takes a lot of room!

I say we go the professional studio route. The time Logan put into the last CD was unbelievable. He enjoyed doing it, but he was never satisfied. I know it was frustrating for him to put in all that time and never be able to get the sound he wanted. I think it would be cool to have a CD done the way Logan has always wanted it to be done. And I think that just making the CD one song at a time over however long it takes would be great. That way it won't be such an overwhelming time commitment for anyone.

Well, I think that if we are going to do it in the studio then it needs to be everyones money, and not just Dads. I know that he wants to invest in this, and he'll probably end up paying more than everyone else, but personally I think that if we make a CD it is going to be something that all of us want, and therefore, it's not fair to not contribute. So I think that if we decide we want to do a CD in the studio (or even buy the equipment to do it ourselves) we should start allocating whatever money we make off of gigs towards that endeavor. I'M NOT saying that is what we are going to do, I'm just SUGGESTING that I THINK that is what we SHOULD do. I think that would be fair. I totally understand if everybody is not ok with that, but if thats the case then maybe we need to stop entertaining the idea of another CD?

And I agree with mom. IF we decide to upgrade some of our equipment, I think that we need to sell some of the older stuff. It's asking a lot to keep all of that equipment at Mom and Dad's house, taking up room. And a lot of the time when we pull it out for practice or a gig they end up having to clean it up and put it away. IF we upgrade, we don't need it all, and we could sell some of it to offset costs.

Why is it that dad doesn't have an opinion on here!? Actually, I agree with all that has been said. I don't want Logan to get burned out before it gets done and then get disappointed. I also agree that everyone should contribute to getting it done. HOWEVER, I would first want to know what it is going to cost, because this is something we would have to save and set $$ aside for. We have some other debts and priorities that we need to invest in as well. This is important though, I want my child to be able to listen to his families music as he falls asleep at night. As for equipment, let's upgrade, as we sell the old....maybe including drums!? I definitely think it is something we need to budget for though and not just jump into all at once. We are nearing the spending season and the economy has and will be affecting all of us in the near future, so I think we need to spend wisely.
Okay, so I'm walking across campus and I pass a man who is walking too slow. As I pass he says, "so you must be professor Reid's father". I stop immediately and say, "well yes I am, how would you have known that"? He says, "well I'm taking one of his classes and he happened to mention that his dad runs the campus police". To which I say, "oh, yea, well I knew it couldn't have been a similarity in looks because he's a much more hansom than I am". To which the man replied, "well that's what he says about you". To which I reply, "no kidding,... I'm going to raise his allowance for that". Let put your allowance toward new equipment.
As to the other items listed above,... I'm still thinking. By the way, the man loves your class.

Well, I did get a little burned out on the last one, but thats not to say that I didn't enjoy and that I wouldn't be TOTALLY willing to do it again... because I would... and AM! But personally, I think that we're to a point where we need to go to the next step and just TRY out a studio. I'm not sold on the idea. I've never done it before, and I might find that I HATE it and would prefer to do it myself. As Dad pointed out last night, working with a studio and a sound tech can be very annoying and frustrating. On the other hand, it might be worth the better quality. Which is why I propose that we TRY it. I think we should all agree on one song, find a time, and go in and record it in the studio. Then we compare the experience, the time, the cost, and most importantly THE QUALITY, with our last recordings, and we decide if we want to go back, or just do it on our own. (Keeping in mind that I would need a new computer to do it ourselves again, which would cost more than we'll pay in the studio). I also agree with Sasha that times are hard and will most likely be getting harder, and this CD is probably not the main priority in life right now, and we certainly don't want to do this if it is going to create any kind of a financial strain on any of us. And nobody should be forced to spend money on this unless we all agree it's what we want to do. My proposal is that we just dedicate any money we make on playing gigs towards a recording fund. For example, mom gave me $35 last night for playing at the School House last week. What a coincidence that this is two dollars more than the cost of 1-hour in the studio! Therefore, I hereby donate that $35 to the cause, (and I'm certain dad will donate his $17.50 as well, which already has us booked for 1.5 hours). The truth is, over the past few months we've made a couple hundred dollars as a band, which, if we had kept it together, may have been enough to record one song. Anyway, I propose that we just start putting any money we make towards studio time, and as we get enough for one song, we hit the studio. If people (Dad) feel like they want to throw some extra in the pot every now and again, great, but there should be no expectation for that. The expectation is that we put money the band makes towards the cd. Ya? Votes of approval? As far as new equipment goes, I say likewise. Speakers, drums, etc. as we sell old stuff and make money as a band, we can put it towards upgraded equipment?
